Vietnamese silk brocade

The fabric for these dresses was hand woven by a small Vietnamese business employing physically disabled people in Hoi An, Vietnam.

Hoi An, a port town, has a strong Chinese influence from trade in the 15th to 19th centuries. The delightful lantern and bamboo design of the fabric reflects a modern blend that stems from Chinese and Vietnamese influences that are unique to Hoi An.

The fabric is delightfully soft to touch and simply divine to wear. The dress has a fitted bodice and a loose, gathered skirt. Think Audrey Hepburn’s gorgeous little black dress. The lining is a fine silk charmeuse. I can’t wait to take my own Red Lantern Dress out on a dressy evening!
